I've always wondered if I should be teaching an adult dance class if I can't "do all the things" but I have realized that I can do some of the things and maybe other people want to do those things, too.
This winter I will be teaching a dance class through the PCC Community Education program at Rock Creek campus. I'm calling it "Low-Impact Modern Dance" because I still struggle with naming classes. Basically, it's this: cardio warm-up, standing stretches, choreography, and cool down. That's it. Just shy of an hour, an easy to follow warm-up, learn a little combination, then finish with some yummy-feeling stretchy stuff. I can promise that I play good music and I'm nice. I just want people to fall in love with dance again and be in a safe space that encourages artistic expression.
This is kind of a bridge between a dance studio modern/jazz class and a low-impact fitness class. One thing I am pretty good at is adapting and improvising as I go to accommodate whatever is needed by those who attend. So if you aren't sure if this class is for you, it probably is. :-)
When: Mondays 6:30-7:20pm (January 6-March 10)
Where: PCC Rock Creek Campus, Building 5, Room 111
Cost: $115 (9 classes total)
If you have questions, please reach out to me. Again, this isn't a typical class. Though I am a life-long dancer, I have arthritis, a pesky hip issue, and also just don't want to do a lot of the things I did in my 20's, so this is kind of a watered-down version of modern dance. It's actually more jazzy. I don't know. Join me and let me know what style it is. :-)
